St. Mary’s Point is a city in Washington County, Minnesota. It is located at the eastern edge of the state, along the St. Croix River. St. Mary’s Point’s population was 366 in July 2009.
This small city can be found across the Bolles Creek from Afton. The history of this quiet, residential area is associated with some of Minnesota’s earliest pioneers. Several French-Canadian families settled in the area before 1837. But St. Mary’s Point really hit it big around 1900, when investors from St. Paul found the land at what was now called St. Mary’s Point ripe for the getaways, cabins and resorts of Minnesota vacationers. Many of these early summer cottages and summer homes are still standing today.
The City of St. Mary’s Point is today a peaceful residential neighborhood of about 150 homes, a quarter of which are along the river. Because the history of St. Mary’s Point runs deep, a variety of architectural styles and real estate types are available, everywhere from older estates to starter houses to new construction homes to empty lots. The estimated median value of a house, town home or condo in 2008 was approximately $252,138.
